Welcome to St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church of Ridgewood. At St. Elizabeth’s our motto is “Welcome home” and that’s how we hope every person feels when they walk through our doors or join us online for services. We gather weekly to pray, sing, worship, and to grow in faith together. We are steeped in the Anglican and Episcopal traditions that stretch back hundreds of years, all the while striving to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in the 21st century. We are a joyful, vibrant parish nestled in the Upper Ridgewood neighborhood but we draw members from all over northeast New Jersey. So whether you are new to the area or have lived here your entire life, we hope you will visit us soon. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the parish staff if you have questions about the church or any of our ministries. We look forward to saying “Welcome Home to St. Elizabeth’s” to you very soon!
On Sunday, March 10th, at the conclusion of the 10 am service, please join us in the Parish Hall for refreshments and a Forum on the upcoming Requiem by John Rutter. The presentation by the Senior Choir and Soloists will offer a detailed exploration of a portion of this beautiful and immensely popular choral work. The Requiem was completed in 1985. A brief introduction to the composer will be followed by a more in-depth look at the music itself.
Listening to music or looking at a work of art with no context can still provide one with a strong, visceral reaction. Many of us clearly know that being exposed to an illuminating Art History or Music History class can bring a deeper understanding to what we experience. We will look at a select text and explore the choices of a gifted composer. We will never know why a composer makes a specific choice unless they tell us directly, but we can discern their voice as an artist through their melodies and their harmonic choices. These are some of the elements we will explore at the Forum, which will hopefully make the Requiem a more enriching experience.
The Requiem will be performed at the 10 am service on Sunday, March 17th. There will be an outstanding group of instrumentalists joining the choir, which includes flute, oboe, cello, harp, percussion and organ. The presentation of a complete Requiem a week prior to Palm Sunday is a significant part of what the choir prepares after the Advent Concert. Please invite family and friends to this extraordinary service.
