First
and Third Wednesday at 11:30a.m.: Healing
Services
Church
School:
Sunday after labor day in September through
the third Sunday in June at 10:00 a.m. Children age Pre-K
through Grade 2 participate in a Children's service. During reconstruction the location of this service will be
subject to change.
Church
School Eucharist:
On those Sundays when we celebrate the Eucharist
in Church, which are not Family Sundays (usually the first Sunday of the
month), children in Grades 3-8 begin in Church with their families. At
the sermon hymn, they, and their teachers, process out to a location (to
be determined during the reconstruction) where one of the clergy leads
them in their own celebration of the Eucharist. We use a slightly
adapted version of the Rite II liturgy from the Prayer Book, assigning
different parts of the service to ten different children to read. This
service normally ends at about 10:40 am, at which time the students and
teachers go to their classes for their Sunday lesson.
Weekdays:
Special services are also held in accordance with the Church calendar.
*
Variations in the local and Church calendar will
prompt changes in this base schedule. The 10:00 a.m.
service will be the Eucharist on these Sundays in the Church
year regardless of when they fall in the month. The First
Sunday of Church School, The First Sunday of Advent, The Last
Sunday after the Epiphany, The First Sunday in Lent, Palm
Sunday, Easter Sunday, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, and any
Episcopal Visitation. In
the Summer the second service begins at 9:30 a.m.
Parishioners are invited to attend summer services in informal
attire.
Lay
Readers lead worship through the reading of lessons, leading
prayers, and assisting at Communion. In accordance with the
national canons of the Church, the Rector invites and trains Lay
Readers, and, on the recommendation of the Rector, the Bishop
licenses them to serve.
The
Altar Guild prepares the altar and other areas of the Church
for worship
and cares for many of the objects which make services beautiful,
dignified, and holy. The Altar Guild provides for the care of
our silver, linens, liturgical hangings, needlework, candles,
and the bread and wine we use at communion. Parishioners - men,
women, and children - interested in joining the Altar Guild
should speak with Jenny Breining or the Rector.
The
altar flowers are given each week in memory of departed loved ones
or in thanksgiving for our many blessings. We have permanent
memorials and thanksgivings, but always welcome new ones at any
time.
Acolytes
lead processions, assist in preparing the altar for
communion, lead congregational responses, and provide essential
assistance in leading worship. The Rector invites members of St.
Elizabeth's in grades 4 through 12 to serve as acolytes.
Interested young people or their parents should speak with the
Rector.
